Acetoxyacetic acid used for

Acetoxyacetic acid is also called oxaloacetic acid or acetoacetic acid. It is a product of fat decomposition and metabolism. It is produced in the liver mitochondria by condensation and cleavage of acetyl coenzyme A. Under normal circumstances, it is completely oxidized through the tricarboxylic acid cycle. However, when fat and sugar metabolism is disordered, such as in diabetes, it cannot be completely oxidized and accumulates in the body. It is one of the components of ketone bodies and can cause acidosis. It can be used to identify and monitor the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diabetic ketoacidosis.
