Description
Almotriptan malate is a selective serotonin 5-HT_1B/1D receptor agonist, developed for the acute treatment of migraine attacks. It exhibits a rapid onset of action, and its efficacy has been demonstrated in Phase III clinical trials, comparing favorably with sumatriptan, a standard treatment for migraine. Almotriptan malate selectively increases carotid vascular resistance, acting on intracranial blood vessels without adversely affecting brain irrigation and inhibits neurogenically evoked plasma protein extravasation of the dura mater, which are indicative of its antimigraine activity.
