Description:
6-Nitrocoumarin is a coumarin derivative that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of xanthine oxidase. 6-Nitrocoumarin inhibits the activity of xanthine oxidase by binding to the heme group and blocking the access of oxygen to the active site, thereby preventing conversion of hypoxanthine to xanthine. 6-Nitrocoumarin also has been shown to inhibit metal carbonyls such as mercury chloride, which may be due to its ability to bind with mercury ions. The optical properties of 6-nitrocoumarin are dependent on solvent polarity and temperature.
Applications:
Antiproliferative Activity
6-Nitro-2H-chromen-2-one derivatives have shown promising antiproliferative activity. New 2-glyco-3-nitro-2H-chromenes, synthesized through one-pot oxa-Michael-Henry-dehydration reactions, exhibit significant antiproliferative effects against various human solid tumor cell lines. Some derivatives are more effective than standard pharmacological compounds, indicating their potential in cancer research and treatment .
