Applications of Mycophenolate mofetil | CAS No. 128794-94-5

1.Treatment of Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)
MMF has been used in the treatment of Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a disorder characterized by a reduced blood platelet count, which increases the risk of hemorrhage .

2.Antibacterial and Antifungal Agent
Mycophenolate mofetil, part of the mycophenolic acid drug class, was first isolated from a Penicillium byproduct over 120 years ago and utilized as an antibacterial and antifungal agent

3.Anticancer Drug
During the 1960s, mycophenolic acid found application as an anticancer drug . There is continued interest in its use as an antineoplastic drug

4.Treatment of Autoimmune Diseases
MMF may have use in autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis .

5.Organ Transplantation
The efficacy of MMF has been clearly established in renal transplantation . However, its value compared with currently used agents, for this and other conditions, is yet to be established

Future Directions
MMF has been recognized as a useful drug in the treatment of interstitial lung disease in systemic rheumatic diseases and skin fibrosis in systemic sclerosis . It is also being studied for the treatment of nephritis and other complications of autoimmune diseases . A broad array of trials with MMF are ongoing within the field of rheumatology that might provide further novel avenues for the use of this drug .
