Product introduction
Introduction and application of Gadolinium oxide sulfide (Gd2O2S), dysprosium and terbium-doped | CAS:68609-40-5
The main use of GdO2S is in ceramic scintillators. Scintillators are used in radiation detectors for medical diagnostics. Scintillators are primary radiation sensors that emit light when struck by high energy photons. The final density of GdO2S based ceramics is 99.7% to 99.99% of the theoretical density (7.32 g/cm3) and the average grain size ranges from 5 microns to 50 microns, depending on the manufacturing process.
Two powder preparation routes have been successfully used to synthesize GdO2S: Pr, Ce, F powder complexes for ceramic scintillators. These preparation routes are called halide flux method and sulfite precipitation method. The scintillation properties of GdO2S: Pr, Ce, F complexes show that this scintillator is promising for imaging applications. There are two major disadvantages of this scintillator; one is the hexagonal crystal structure which gives optical translucency and low external light collection only at the photodiode. The other disadvantage is high X-ray damage to the sample.
Specification of Gadolinium oxide sulfide (Gd2O2S), dysprosium and terbium-doped | CAS:68609-40-5
Gadolinium oxide sulfide, Gadolinium(III) oxysulfide, Gadolinium oxysulphide, Gadox, GOS, Gadolinium sulfoxylate, Digadolinium dioxide sulfide, CAS 37265-36-4, CAS 68609-42-7 (praseodymium-doped), EC 271-826-9, CAS 68609-40-5 (dysprosium and terbium doped), EC 271-824-8, CAS 68609-44-9 (ytterbium-doped), CAS 68609-41-6 (europium-doped)
Terbium-activated gadolinium oxysulfide is frequently used as a scintillator for X-ray imaging. It emits at wavelengths between 382-622 nm, but the main emission peak is at 545 nm. It is also used as a green phosphor in projection CRTs, but has the disadvantage of significantly reduced efficiency at higher temperatures. Variants include, for example, the use of praseodymium instead of terbium (CAS Reg. No. 68609-42-7, EINECS No. 271-826-9), or doping with a mixture of dysprosium and terbium (CAS No. 68609-40-5, EINECS No. 271-824-8).
Gadolinium oxysulfide is a promising luminescent host material because of its high density (7.32 g/cm3) and high effective Gd atomic number. These properties lead to a high probability of interaction with X-ray radiation. Because they have high reliability, low cost and high luminescence properties. The (Gd0.99, Pr0.01)2O2S submicron phosphor synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method is expected to become a new green luminescent material for high-resolution digital X-ray imaging [3]. Gadolinium oxysulfide powder phosphors are widely used to convert X-rays into visible light in medical X-ray imaging. Gadolinium oxysulfide: Pr-based solid-state X-ray detectors have been successfully reintroduced into X-ray sampling in medical computed tomography (by using any type of penetrating wave for slice or slice imaging).
